The World's Best Seller!

Over the last few weeks, during lockdown, you may have had the opportunity to read that book you always wanted to read. Maybe that adventure story or romantic novel but have you ever read, or part read the Bible? The Bible is full of exciting stories of adventure, history, interesting characters, romance but most of all it introduces us to God and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible is a PRESERVED book written long ago but so relevant for today’s world and its challenges. Many have tried to destroy the book over the centuries. King Jehoiakim, in the Bible tried as he didn’t like what he heard and tried to destroy the Word of God with a penknife and fire without success. The Bible remains the top selling book in the world and has been translated into many languages so all can read the wonders and truth found within its pages.

The Bible is also a PERFECT book as it was written by God – “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure” (Psalm 19 v 7). The Holy Scriptures are not man made but God breathed “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1 v 21).

The Bible contains the full details of how our world came into being from the very first verse, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1 v 1) and provides a clear view of history and throughout its pages points to the Lord Jesus Christ. The New Testament introduces us to the Lord Jesus’ life here on earth and the many miracles, signs and wonders that he did. John reminds us that “these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name(John 20 v 31).

The Bible is also a POWERFUL book as the Hebrew writer reminds us “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” and can dramatically change people’s lives.  As a living book it outlines that we have all fallen short of Gods standard and each one of us the Bible says is a sinner. However, the GOOD NEWS of the Bible is that although “all have sinned” (Romans 3 v 23) God sent his Son to be the Saviour of the World. Christ died on a cross and bore the sin of the world and paid the price of sin in full by shedding his blood – “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin(1 John 1 v 7)

If you repent of your sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ the Bible says you will be saved, eternally secure and have a home in heaven. “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved(Acts 2 v 21)
