Our Home

Throughout this pandemic we have virtually been into many people’s homes. During news interviews or work conferences we have seen many backdrops including extensive bookshelves, whitewashed walls and the occasional child interrupting proceedings.

We continue to be wary of who we let into our homes but has there been a time in your life when the Lord Jesus Christ has been welcomed into your life and home.

The Lord Jesus visited many homes when he was down here on earth but was probably most comfortable at a house in Bethany. The home of Lazarus and his two sisters Mary and Martha.

Following the Lord’s death and resurrection he visited another home as he walked on the Emmaus road in Luke chapter 24. The two disciples, probably a Christian couple, were down hearted following the recent violent death of Jesus of Nazareth outside the great city of Jerusalem. Unbeknown to them the stranger that walked with them was the Lord Jesus himself.

He expounded unto them the things concerning himself from the Bible. He probably mentioned that the scriptures state that “all have sinned” (Romans 3 v 23) and the fact that he was sent from God “to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19 v 10).  He would have expounded the meanings of the old testament prophecies and explained how these things had now taken place.  Confirming that “ought not Christ to have suffered these things” (Luke 24 v 26), in going to the cross of Calvary and paying the price of sin but on the third day would be raised from the dead.

There was a time when the travellers stopped but the two disciples invited the stranger into their home to continue the intriguing conversation and a meal was prepared. During this meal “their eyes were opened, and they knew him” (Luke 24 v 31), they realised it was the Lord Jesus himself in their midst.

As you travel the journey of life and consider the wonderful things the Lord Jesus has done for you. How that “he bare our sins in his own body on the tree” (1 Peter 2 v 24) and that he died and arose again according to the scriptures on the third day. Will you put your faith and trust in him?

He will never force himself into your life, but like in the passage, he waits to be invited in. He knocks on your heart’s door TODAY.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3 v 20)
